THE TRUMPTONSHIRE TRILOGY
CAMBERWICK GREEN,TRUMPTON AND CHIGLEY
Yep.Brian's had one heck of a career even if you were to base it solely on tv man hours - nevermind all his theatre and voiceover work and Lord knows what else.So this is just intended as a collection of titbits to dip in and out of.And as he's played such a major part in so many kids' lives it's far too churlish to restrict it soley to Trumptonshire. So I won't.
And whenever I find something of interest I'll put it up -articles,playschool & playaway books and annuals, screenshots, books,theatre/panto programmes or posters...whatever.

One Million Years BC ?  Well, not quite. But how many of us can actually remember a time Before Cant  ?
The poster to the left is from an 80's stage version of PlayAway.
And the pic just puts some faces to the names.

Tony Robinson -"Baldrick" and C4 "Time Team" host
Anita Dobson - Screen wife of Eastender's Dirty Den and actual long-term partner and permpal of Queen guitarist, Brian May.
Julie Stevens - One of the very early Play School presenters along with Brian (It started in 1964)
Jonathan Cohen - chief ivory tinkler
(hope the last two are correct !)
" TRUMPTONSHIRE TALES "
WHAT   ?
"Trumptonshire Tales" is an 80 minute live stage event featuring a one-to-one between "Sir" Brian Cant and
Phill Jupitus. They chat about all things Trumptonshire with clips from the series. There's are filmed interviews with creator Gordon Murray and chief animator,Bob Bura. And a full episode to round it all off.

WHEN   ?
Debut at the Encounters Animation Festival in Bristol on March 11th,2007.

This was a sell-out and was followed by a repeat performance at the London Barbican on May 27th,2007,with Bob Bura attending in person for that one.

Then there was a stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
A week long residency at The Pleasance Beyond venue.
August 7th to 14th excluding Monday 13th
2.30 start,10 pounds for adults + 8 for kids & concessions

WHY   ?
Originally just intended as a one-off for the Bristol festival. But supply had to meet demand,so it branched out.
And it was officially taken to Edinburgh by 'Encounters' -the Bristol-based International Festival of Animation & Short Film, with additional support from Aardman (the producers of Wallace & Gromit of course).

Above-a nice pic including Brian's wife,Cherry.Who,if you read the article at the top of the page is indeed Fern Britton's sister.Which I'm sure she's probably heartily sick of being reminded of !

Why Phill   ? (And,yes,it is double ' L ')
Well,he's a Trumptonshire fan and narrated the Radio 4 documentary produced to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Camberwick Green's 1st broadcast in Jan.2006.
He also manages to fit in the slightly less pressing tasks of being a jock (I think that's still the term) on the Beeb's '6 Music' station and a team captain on BBC 2's "Never Mind the Buzzcocks"
-"As a child, the 15 minutes a week when I could escape to Trumpton or Camberwick Green were my most treasured. Now that I'm a parent,I've watched them again and been stunned and thrilled to see that they still have the power to captivate and charm-and that the magic works both on me and a new generation" Now,admittedly that was from a press release, but he's clearly a man of impeccable taste and background and his place in the Winkstead Hall of Fame is assured

Good to see Brian looking so chipper. Although the presence of the Windy figure was probably a little unfortunate as he's admitted his promotional overtures to Robert Harrop were ignored  !

The things on the screen are just Encounters Festival sponsors by the way, just in case you're trying to make them out.

I've added a 2007 interview he did with the Scotsman newspaper HERE
These next links are for a couple of interviews about the Nov.2005 debut of a new stage show he was touring.
Basically a one-man retrospective with a familiar old Play Away collaborator. (and,no,it wasn't Jeremy Irons !)
