THE TRUMPTONSHIRE TRILOGY
CAMBERWICK GREEN,TRUMPTON AND CHIGLEY
ON THIS PAGE -a guide to Trumps recycling ie.all those characters (or things) that appear in more than one series.
But the rest are just padding really.
With most appearing (as below) in group scenes like the Band Concert.Or in fleeting individual appearances, like Paddy & Mary Murphy buying ice cream or Farmer Bell & cow watching the firemen go by.And there are plenty of other examples.
3) BYSTANDERS
Farmer Bell and cow are seen watching the firemen drive by in the Mrs.Cobbit & the Ice Cream Man episode.
Doubtless the same 'jobbing' cow that doubled as Windy's "Bess" and the only one ever seen on the Bell Farm.
Mrs.Dingle's puppy "Packett" (alone on a pavement) is seen watching the Minton's drive by in Miss Lovelace & the Statue. Well,it's the same model but is it supposed to be the same dog ? No idea.
Although having said that.......Mrs.Dingle does appear twice in Mrs.Cobbit & the Ice Cream Man -buying both flowers and ice cream -although minus puppy. So if it was yours Mrs.D,keep him on a lead for goodness sake !
Camberwick Characters appearing in Trumpton
Quite a few Camberwick residents turn up throughout the Trumpton series.
But.......they're merely non-speaking bystanders -just bodies to fill a scene.
The only real exception is the appearance of Mr.Crockett, the garage owner,
in the "Miss Lovelace and the Statue" episode.
Because he gets a bit more involved by arriving in the Market Square in his breakdown truck to tow away Mr.Clamp's lorry.
But even he doesn't get to speak. He just turns up,hooks up and drives off.
Although it's also worthy of mention as it's preceeded by the only direct "Camberwick" reference during Trumpton as the Mayor tells Troop to...
"Ring up the garage on the Camberwick Road, and ask Mr.Crockett if he would come to our assistance".
Of course,it was admirable that they choose not to rely on all the Camberwick favourites. And it's something you appreciate all the more when you watch Chigley, which borrowed heavily from both its predecessors (all to be catalogued here in due course.)
But whilst Trumpton was a pretty clean break from Camberwick,it still required the pragmatic re-use of materials,as well as manpower, just to save time. And check out the "odballls" page for a few examples of this Trumptonshire recyling.
Notable exceptions ?
Well, neither Windy nor any of the Pippin Fort-ers are ever seen in Trumpton.....even as bystanders.
Which is perhaps a slightly dangerous claim to make because,by definition,it's easy to miss a bystander.
But I'm as sure as I can be that that's right. So I wonder how many would get this right......
Q. Which series did Windy Miller appear in ? A. Camberwick Green and Chigley
